Frequently Asked Questions
How secure is my information on this website?
Very secure. Per our Terms of Service we keep all information you provide to us confidential, regardless of whether or not you end up choosing to file your patent application with us. Confidentiality is the #1 concern of most inventors, and we take it extremely seriously. If you have questions regarding our confidentiality policies, feel free to reach out via the contact form in our About Us page.
In addition to our confidentiality policies, we use an encrypted email service and keep the number of external links on this website to a minimum. This increases the security of the website and of the messages you send us.
Will a real person review my patent application?
Yes. A real registered patent agent will review and file your patent application. Their USPTO registration number will be provided to you upon request.
Why do I need to provide so much information upfront?
We ask for a lot of information upfront (name of inventors, mailing addresses, application and drawings, etc.) upfront since this streamlines the process of getting your application ready for filing. Else we would be constantly emailing you back-and-forth asking for more information. If you prefer to reach out to us first before providing any information, feel free to use the contact form in our About Us page.
Why won’t the document upload fields work?
Make sure your application is uploaded as a .doc or a .docx file. Make sure your drawings are uploaded as a .pdf, .ppt, or .pptx file. If the document upload fields are still not working, you can just upload a blank Word document to the application field and a blank PowerPoint or PDF document to the drawing field. We’ll then reach out with an alternative way for you to provide this information to us.
Why was I told you are unable to assist me in my patent case?
Per our Terms of Service there are a number of reasons that we may decline service, including but not limited to a potential conflict of interest or a potential breach in an agreement we have with a third party. This rarely happens, but when it does we do have a duty to our other clients and business partners to uphold our agreements with them. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Rest assured that if we decline to assist you in your patent case, any information you provided to us is still 100% confidential.
Is it a good idea to have AI draft my patent application?
Kind of. When popular large language models such as ChatGPT and Gemini first came out, they weren’t great at drafting patent applications. But these programs are getting smarter and smarter by the day. Having AI draft your patent application can save a lot of time and money. We do however recommend having your AI-drafted application reviewed by a registered patent agent, like us! FileMyPatentUSA.com started because we believe AI is the future of patent drafting, and we want to help you use this tool as effectively and securely as possible.
If you do choose to have an AI program draft your patent application, we recommend signing up for a paid subscription that ensures your information won’t be used for training the program. This will help keep your invention confidential.
